Kaduna police tells hunters to surrender weapons

Kaduna State Commissioner of Police, Austin Iwar, has cautioned hunters and other people in possession of illegal weapons in the state to surrender same to the police in order to avoid the wrath of the law.

Speaking in a meeting with hunters from Pambegwa and Saminaka in Lere Local Government Area of the state, he noted that following the recent directives by the Inspector-General of Police, Ibrahim Idris to state Commissioners of Police to mop up all illegal arms in their states, he gave the hunters the opportunity to willingly hand over their illegally acquired weapons.

The Commissioner of Police noted that the hunters from creation of the world have been part of humanity and in Nigeria apart from their traditional hunting jobs, they have played great roles in sustaining security in their area of domain.

He added that in view of this, the State Police Command was ready to work with hunters in the area of providing security, stressing that they know the terrain very well and are even aware of the bandits and criminals terrorizing the areas.

“We are going to work together with you because we appreciate your profession as hunters. There is going to be hunters-police partnership in order to boost security in Kaduna state.

“We are going to train some of you in this regards so that you will not engage in illegal acts contrary to the law of the land. Nigeria as a country is governed by the law and hunters must also follow the law of the land.

“We have set up a task force to mop up illegal arms such as AK47 and others. And we call on you to cooperate with the task force to surrender such weapons at your possession.

“We appreciate your cooperation towards providing security in the state and we cannot allow you out of the struggle to restore sanity in the state; that is why we call you here today to have a heart-to-heart discussion and map out a joint way forward,” he explained.

The CP who was earlier at the Television Motor Park and Sabon Tasha Garage in Chikun Local Government Area, for his campaign for community policing directed the deployment of fourteen additional police officers to the Television Motor Park and immediate establishment of police outpost at the Sabon Tasha garage.
