Kaduna State Governor, Malam Nasir El-Rufai, has decried lack of good facilities at the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) orientation camp in Kaduna.
He promised to overhaul the facilities to make the camp one of the best in the country.
The governor dolled out to each of the two camp officials, Mrs. Silifatu Bamidele and Alhaji Idris Ogunbunmi, who emerged the best officials during the 21-day orientation course, the sum of N500,000 and N100,000 for three outstanding corps members within same period.
Declaring the 2016 batch ‘B’ orientation course closed, the governor said, the orientation camp should be where corps members should be looking forward to, adding that it should be comfortable enough for the purpose it was meant to be.
According to Governor El-Rufai, “We are going to evaluate the camp and infrastructure needed will be provided to make this camp one of the best in the country.
“The orientation camp should be comfortable. It should be a place where corps members should look forward to. What I’m seeing is not what should be and we are going to do something about it by God’s grace within the limit of our resources.”
He reiterated the commitment of the state government to give the scheme maximum support towards the attainment of its objectives.
“In this regard, my government has started the phase-by-phase renovation of some essential facilities on camp to create an enabling environment for result-oriented induction course for successive batches of corps members.
“I wish to encourage employers to accept the corps members posted to them and make them comfortable. All MDAs of Kaduna State government must not reject corps members posted to them,” he warned.
Earlier, the NYSC State Coordinator, Muhammed Momoh urged corps members to respect the culture and tradition of their host communities as well as identify with their problems and aspirations with a view to providing solutions to them through community mobilization.
He thanked the state government, corps employers, security agencies and other stakeholders for their immense contributions towards having a successful orientation exercise.
