Kaduna killings: Fulanis speak on retaliation

The Gan Allah Fulani Development Association of Nigeria (GAFDAN) has urged its members not to take laws into their hands over the killings in Kajuru Local Government Area of Kaduna State.

The National Secretary of GAFDAN, Ibrahim Abdullahi in a statement in Kaduna on Monday, said the members should allow government and security agencies to deal with the issue.

Abdullahi said GAFDAN had an emergency meeting to review the recent killings in the area where over hundred Fulani people were allegedly killed in an unprovoked attack by the Adara communities in Iri, Maro villages on February 11.

According to him, the State government and security agencies have comfirmed the killing of 66 Fulani persons in the attack.

He lamented that while people within and outside the area were showing their sympathy and support to the efforts by well meaning Nigerians to resolve the crisis amicably, some members of the immediate community “are shamelessly denying it.”

“We call on our people not to take laws into their own hands but to allow government and security agencies deal with the issues.

“We call on the government and the security agencies to ensure that the perpetrators of these crimes against humanity are apprehended and brought to book.

“We commend the Governor of Kaduna State, the Security Agencies for visiting the areas to see for themselves the level of destruction of human lives and property perpetuated by these criminals,” he said.

The secretary said the association would continue to work with all stakeholders and peace loving people to ensure that the people of the area reconciled with one another.
