Justice Ubaezonu reveals why Ekwueme was nominated Nigeria’s Vice President

A former Justice of the Appeal Court, Justice Eugene Ubaezuonu, has revealed what earned the late Alex Ifeanyichukwu Ekwueme the position of Nigeria’s Vice-President.

According to him, was the deceased outstanding character that earned him the position as vice president adding that he never disappointed anyone, even those that doubted his abilities.

He disclosed this in Enugu on Tuesday at the Christian Wake and Service of Songs held in honour of the late former Vice President, while recounting how he nominated Ekwueme to be running mate to Alhaji Shehu Shagari in the second republic.

His words: “I got to know him (Ekwueme) during his political days when I was the legal adviser to late Chief Nwafor Orizu who was in turn an aide to former President Shehu Shagari.

“It was the late Ekwueme’s outstanding character that earned him the position as Vice President He never disappointed anyone, even those that doubted his abilities.

“Today, Alex as he was better known among his peers is no more on this planet. He has left his marks on the sands of time.

“To the family, take heart,” Ubaezuonu, an associate of the late sage, said.
