Justice Ayo Salami retires

Former President of the Court of Appeal, Justice Ayo Salami, has resigned.

His resignation came barely two years after having waited endlessly for his recall.

Reliable sources disclosed that Salami decided to bow out when he realized that his reinstatement was not forthcoming.

According to the source, the legal icon had already tendered his resignation letter to NJC and the council had since acknowledged it.

The insider further hinted that Salami, who is expected to formally retire from service on October 15, was expected to go on his pre-retirement leave this month.

“It is true that we have received Salami’s pre-retirement letter and notice in accordance with the rules of National Judicial Service of Nigeria,” the source said.

“The development has put to an end any possibility of recalling him,” he added.

Following his retirement, either Justice Dalhatu Adamu or Justice Zainab Bulkachuwa would emerged as the substantive FCA judge in the next couple of months.

However, Bulkachuwa has been playing the role since November 22, 2012.

Another insider hinted that the judicial authorities were poised at recommending the female judge to succeed Salami because of her faultless record in the service so far.

DailyPost recalls that NJC had, in August 2011, suspended Justice Ayo Salami for refusing to tender apologies to the council and the former Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Aloysius Katsina-Alu, after a panel of the council discovered he had lied against CJN.
