Hafsat Abiola, daughter of the acclaimed winner of the June 12 presidential election, M.K.O. Abiola on Tuesday revealed why her father preferred to die in the course of reclaiming his mandate.
Hafsat disclosed that her father preferred to die than compromise the integrity of Nigerians.
She spoke on Tuesday during the Special National Honours Investiture at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
Hafsat said, “What MKO Abiola wanted to say was I love and believe in Nigerians, he loved every Nigerian. All you needed to be for him to love you was to be a Nigerian.
“Abiola preferred to die rather than compromise on the integrity of Nigerians.”
While commending President Muhammadu Buhari for honouring the late Abiola with the GCFR title, she said, “Nobody would have ever believed that you will be the instrument God will use to honour Abiola.
“Abiola was committed to saying farewell to poverty in Nigeria, so to you Buhari, by recognising June 12, you are waking up so many heroes,
“God’s willing, this fight will not take you as it did to Abiola until this nation is rid of every corruption.”
