An Area Court Judge, Umar Y. Gwani was on Friday remanded in prison by a Federal High Court sitting in Gombe State over an alleged fraud.
Gwani was accused by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, of collecting about N7m from the sale of landed properties under false pretence and conspiracy.
According to EFCC’s counsel, Zarami Mohammed, Gwani alongside two others conspired and sold plots of land belonging to the state government to unsuspecting members of the public under false pretence.
Mohammed noted that the accused did not contact the Ministry of Land and Survey and Local Government Area before selling the lands, adding that Gwani when confronted denied any link to the sold landed properties.
Gwani was arraigned before the Federal High court on a four-count charge.
Counsel to the accused, Mukaan Kingsley, however expressed surprise that the listed count charges were different from what transpired in court.
