JTF releases ex-Niger Delta militant leader, nine others

Ex-militant leader, Mr. Goddey Smith Bounanawei (alias King of the Forest) and nine others, including Peremor Ekpesegba, Akpos Livinus, Monday Ebimene, Churchilll Agbelogode, who were arrested by the Joint Task Force in connection with renewed militancy in the region have regained their freedom.

The Ex-militants were released by the JTF on Thursday and handed over to the Delta State Command of the Nigeria Police Force before their eventual release.

In a statement signed and made available to DAILY POST, President of Ijaw Youth Council, Engr. Udengs Eradiri commended Nigeria’s Acting President, Prof. Yemi Osinbanjo for heeding to the demand of the IYC and other stakeholders in releasing THE ex-agitators.

The IYC noteD that some other Niger Delta youths arrested for the same reason are still in detention.

Eradiri named those still in detention to include Aboy Muturu, Niger Delta activist: Ezekiel Daniel, IYC Abuja chapter Spokesman, Alex Odogu and others.

Eradiri called on Acting President, Yemi Osinbanjo to order the release of those still in detention stressing that it would further strengthen the peace process in the Niger Delta region.

It would be recalled that the IYC President, Udengs Eradiri, had during the fact finding visit of the Acting President to Oporoza in Delta State and Yenagoa in Bayelsa State made a case for the release of those arrested in connection with the agitations in furtherance of the confidence building process.
