Four suspected sea pirates in Mbikiri and Nembe communities, Brass Local Government Area of Bayelsa State have been apprehended by men of the Joint Military Task Force, JTF.
The suspects, who were on Thursday paraded at the JTF’s headquarters in Opolo, Yenogoa, the State capital are Robinson Dewarrior, 22; David Mhale, 21; Joky Daukoro, 17; and 19-year-old Lelegite Dick.
According to the media coordinator of JTF, Lt-Col Ado Isa who represented the Commander, Maj Gen Emmanuel Atewe , one AK-47, four rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, one G3 loaded with 7.62mm NATO and one pump-action gun loaded with cartridges were recovered from the suspects.
Atewe further stated that they were arrested on Monday and Tuesday by operatives of JTF deployed in Fontua, Brass.
His words, “The suspects, before their arrest, were responsible for all the attacks and sea robberies along the Mbikiri and Nembe 1 waterways of the state.
“These criminals take advantage of the difficult terrain and manoeuvre in the creek to unleash terror on their victims.
“It is hoped that their arrest will make the waterways safe and conducive for voyage and other economic activities in the region.”
The JTF spokesperson appealed to residents of the State as well as those in the Niger Delta region to cooperate with JTF in its effort to flush out criminals from the region.
