JTF apprehends General Shuwa’s killers


The Joint Task Force (JTF) otherwise known as Operation Restore Order in Borno state, has paraded three suspects in connection with the murder of a civil war hero, late General Muhammadu Shuwa, who was killed sometimes last year at his resident in Gwange ward of Maiduguri, the Borno state capital.

The three suspects who are in their early and mid 20s told newsmen while answering questions that they were indeed members of the sect, who have been working with the directive of an unknown paid master.

The suspects who were paraded on Monday at the JTF headquarters told newsmen that they were arrested during one of the raids carried out by security operative in Gwange area.

Speaking to DailyPost in Maiduguri, Mustapha Umar, one of the suspect said, his first assignment was when he conveyed other members on Keke Napep to go and Kill General Muhammadu Shuwa. He disclosed that his second was when they went and robbed late Alhaji Adam Maisuga, with a similar operation behind General Hospital, where they were detailed to go and kill some mobile police, but unfortunately they were not around when they got to the place.

Mustapha Umar told DailyPost that he was paid N2000 for the operation that sniffed life out of the General and N5000 for robbing late Alhaji Maisuga.

Also Bakura Bama, a 20 year old said he was also resident at Gwange and was recruited by one Abdulkarim of the same ward. He said he knew Abdulkarim whose mother lives in the same Gwange, but never knew where his recruiter was residing when they first started together, until his boss had some trust in him, before he was invited to his house where he spent the night after one of their operations.

“I do not know where Abdulkarim is now but he was not there when we were arrested. He is the costodian of our weapons and where he hides them we do not know. When we robbed Alhaji Maisuga, we took the money I think about N7 to N10 million to the river bank at the bridge along Gwange were we handed over the amount to Abdulkarim for unward delivery to the men we are working for. I was paid N5000 for that opetation.” He explained.

According to him, he did not carry a gun during the opetation when they rob late Alhaji Maisuga but he went in as an informant to alart his collaborators of any security presence during the opetation.

For Goni Modu Lawan 26 years of age, he has been a tea vendor when he met the other and join hands with them in the opetations. According to him, he has never killed anyonev but has informed the group on potential targets for robbery.

The three suspected also said they realised they were not doing the right thing but that they have found themselves in a racket that, they can not get out of it.
