It was not a good day for one of our reporters who was beaten blue and black on Friday at one Oando filling station located in kubwa village-Abuja, after he had complained severally of some illegal sales going on in the filling station.
The Oando filling station is located just opposite an NNPC Mega Station in Kubwa village, Abuja.
Our reporter, like other car owners drove into a filling station around 3 pm and joined the long Queue as it has always been since the yuletide season began, in order to refill his tank when the incident happened.
He said after haven waited on the Queue endlessly, without being allowed to get into the filling station, he decided to take a stroll to the station, where he discovered that black marketers had hundreds of gallons Queued, as the filling station attendants were busy collecting 500 naira from buyers to put fuel in their gallons.
Another shocking discovery was an alternative road reserved for special customers who pay 500 to 1000 naira just to get their cars into the station without necessarily going through the original queue.
Enraged by this development, as the Queue remained static, our reporter hurried to the Manager’s office to lodge his complaint, but was turned back, as the Manager instructed that no one should let him in.
As the dirty deals continued, our reporter attempted to take some photographs to justify his claims when the whole attendants, including the Manager pounced on him, torn his cloths and dragged him out of the station.
One of the filling station attendants, Mr Abubakar had purportedly said that it does not matter what was done with the fuel that was discharged only about two hours before trouble started.
He claimed that enough fuel was still available but they also do personal business with the discharged fuel, boasting that the rest of the people outside the station would be wasting their time if they continued to wait. The Manager also came out to reiterate Abubakar’s statement in the most rude manner.
Meanwhile, our reporter managed to get into his car as the attendants threatened to burn him alive, after being dragged to the gate. With the help of a good Nigerian who witnessed the incident, our reporter was rushed to a nearby Hospital.
When we got hold of the information, one of our reporters rushed to the filling station to confirm the news, but was barred from getting into the station.
Meanwhile, one Abraham, whose car was left stranded on the Queue told our correspondent that the manner which the attendants and the Manager handled the reporter was callous.
He said “We keep complaining that Jonathan is the problem, but I have seen that we are our problem. How can people be on the Queue since morning and you are busy diverting fuel to black marketers and other people who pay 500 to 600 naira bribe. I think that boy, I mean that Abubakar and the Manager have questions to answer. Even with all that they do, they still collect 600 naira from you if you want to buy above 20 litres. What a country! The Manager even knows everything, so you can’t report to him. When I complained to him, he said I can’t teach him how to do his job. To him, the world finishes within the walls of the petrol station. This is very bad.”
Speaking on the barbaric treatment meted on our reporter, he said” I have never seen such callous act before. I pray the man recovers. He was beaten blue and black. This is bad. Nigerians have taken the laws completely into their hands.”
DailyPost will be doing an editorial on this disdainful act that is gradually taking over our country.
