Jonathan vs Buhari: Entertainers divided over presidential polls


In less than 24 hours, Nigeria would witness a pulsating battle for its soul as eligible electorate would match to the polling booths to elect the next person who would will pilot the ship of the country for the next four years.

Interestingly, the main contenders in this race include Gen. Muhammadu Buhari, representing the All Progressives Congress, APC, and the incumbent, President Goodluck Jonathan of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.

Both political actors are seriously playing their parts to become the next Aso Rock Chief Priest.

However, the election seems to have torn the creative industry apart as opinions are divided among entertainers. While some entertainers want Mr. President to remain in power for another four years, others are on the contrary, declaring that the Otuoke-born zoologist has over stay his welcome at the presidential villa. Meanwhile, some entertainers would rather prefer to remain neutral while campaigning for a free, fair and credible election.

In this special edition, DAILY POST x-rays Nigerian entertainers and their preferred candidate in the March 28 presidential election.

Mike Ezuronye

Nollywood actor, Mike Ezuruonye has never for once hidden his support for the second term ambition of President Goodluck Jonathan. For him, the re-election of Jonathan is the beginning of Nigeria’s journey to Promised Land. The actor whose wife and children are based in Canada recently took to his Instagram page where he shared a picture of himself and Mr. President.

His open support for the number one citizen reportedly fetched him several millions of Naira.

D’banj

“I go vote for Goodluck Jonathan, the right man we need, ee oo aa” with this song, music star and Oliver Twist crooner, Oladapo Oyebanjo, famously known as D’banj declared his support for President Goodluck Jonathan and Namadi Sambo in 2011. Since then, the singer has been enjoying a close connection with the president. The self-acclaimed Koko Master has been severally using his social media platform to campaign for the president’s second term.

Ibinabo

Embattled President of the Actors Guild of Nigeria, AGN, Ibinabo Fiberesima has been using her guild to campaign for the re-eection of President Jonathan. In fact, the actress and ex beauty queen wh was recently ousted as AGN leader by a Lagos court has been leading other Nollywood members to tour with the President across the 36 states pf the federation for campaign. Ibinabo once declared that the president has been supporting the motion pictures industry and thus deserves all their support.

Paul Obazele

“His Excellency, Goodluck Ebele Azikwe Jona­than has contributed immensely to the growth of Nollywood from his days as governor of Bayelsa State till date.

He has shown us love and we reciprocated by giving him a befitting award for leader­ship excellence and he promised to keep the award in his personal museum, when he lives office and assured us of his continuous sup­port, and promised to build a hall of fame. Immediate past president of Associa­tion of Movie Producers and incumbent President of Edo Film Makers Association, Paul Obazele said this when asked to explain why Jonathan should be reelected.

He was one of those who has been calling for the removal of Professor Attahiru Jega as chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.

Seyi Shay

Sexy singer, Seyi Shay was ‘person of the moment’ recently in Lagos where more than 5,000 Nigerian youths met with the President of Nigeria, Goodluck Jonathan. The singer who donned a controversial skimpy attire was ‘bashed’ fans and social media enthusiasts for trying to seduce the president. This, however did not deter her support for the president.

Toyin Aimakhu

Popular Yoruba actress, Toyin Aimakhu, was excited in Lagos meeting President Goodluck Jonathan. Aimakhu declared she can die for Jonathan and the Peoples Democratic Party.

KCee

Limpopo singer, KCee’s open support for the president did not come as a surprise to many entertainment pundits because he was last year appointed as an Ambassador for Peace by the First Lady, Dame Patience Jonathan sometime last year. KCee was among other singer who stormed Calabar for Jonathan’s relection.

Bovi

Frontline comedian, Bovi has also been in the forefront of President Jonathan’s campaign. Aside his daily Pro-Jonathan’s tweets, the comedy merchant was also among other stars who met with the president in Lagos penultimate Sunday.

Seyi Law

For Seyi Law, President Goodluck Jonathan has the panacea to Nigeria’s nagging problem. The comedian has also been using his social media platform to sing the Jonathan’s second term anthem.

Ejike Asiegbu

Former President of the Actors Guild of Nigeria, AGN, Ejike Asiegbu is another entertainer who want the president relected for another term. In a recent interview, the veteran actor says for all the support the president has been given the industry, he should be returned for another four years.

Duncan Mighty

He prides himself as Port Harcourt First Son, south-south singer, Duncan Mighty remains a died hard fan of President Goodluck Jonathan. The entertainer has been touring the nook and crannies of the country with the president in all his rally.

Gordons

Frontline Comedia, Gordons is of the opinion that his Niger Delta brother, Jonathan should remain in power for another year. The singer who had repeatedly dished the president his Comedy Clinic skit said he won’t allow any other person snatch power from south south.

Larry Kodsweat

Actor, Larry Kodsweat was among other Nollywood practitioners who are for the president. The actor who barely appear in movie these days said Jonathan is the answer.

Eucheria Anunobi

Actress turned-evangelist, Echaria Anunobi also wants the president re-elected. The born again thespian said the president has done well for the nation and should reappointed.

Omoni Oboli

Omoni Oboli sparked social media debate when she privately premiered her movie, Being Mrs Elliot, to the president. Ever since, the president has been enjoying her support.

Timi Dakolo

Soft-spoken songster, Timi Dakolo has also been very supportive to the Jonathan’s campaign. He was among the stars who met with the PDP candidate in Lagos recently.

Ini Edo

Nollywood actress, Iniobong Edobong believes any attempt to enthrone another person would be suicidal. The actress who was addressing PDP supporters during a rally for the president said with Jonathan, Nigeria will surely match forward.

Onyeka Owenu

Elegant Stallion, as she’s fondly called, icnonic songbird, Onyeka Owenu is one of the many celebrities who are enjoying the national cake. The You and I singer who also has a federal government appointment has been calling for the reflection of the president.

Bob Manuel Udokwu

Gulder Ultimate Search host and Nollywood actor, Bob Manuel Udokwu Jnr is also an ardent support of Jonathan’s re-elction. He is of the opinion that Nigeria is too young to be governed by a 72-year-old man.

Omo Baba

Bearded comedian, Omobaba too has been using his fame to campaign for Jonathan’s second term ambition. He was also part of the them that met with the president recently.

Patience Ozokwor

Nollywood actress, Patience Ozokwor is also a among the entertainers enjoying the Goodluck largageese. The veteran actress who also enjoys the national honour of Member of the Federal Republic, MFR, is also a strong supporter of the Jonathan’s government.

Omawunmi

Bottom Belle crooner, Omawumi Mgbele is of the opinion that Jonathan has done credibly well within the past four years and should be given another chance.

Chika Okpala (Zebrudaya)

The Masquarde actor, Chief Chike Okpala, also known as Zebrudaya has been a force to reckon in this Jonathan’s administration. The comic actor known for his jaw-breaking words is the face of the PDP presidential campaign organisation. However, the APC says its party is too serious to use a person like Zebrudaya for campaign.

Buhari

Don Jazzy

Mavin Record Boss, Michael Collins, otherwise known as Don Jazzy is not on the popular side. He thinks the current government has not done enough to deserve another term. He took many of his fans by storm when he stormed the Teslim Balogun Stadium venue of the APC Lagos presidential campaign.

Olamide

Raunchy singer, Olamide released two singles in support of the Buhari/Osinbanjo campaign organisation. He opines that the duo of Buhari and Osinbajo are the right people Nigeria needs.

Desmond Elliot

Nollywood actor-turned-politician, Desmond ‘Olusola’ Elliot a member of the APC after he clinched the primary ticket of the party for the state house of Assembly. He is also backing his boss, Buhari for the number one seat.

Those who are neutral

Tuface

Africa Queen crooner, Innocent Uja Idibia though does not have any candidate in the coming election but is championing the Vote Not Fight campaign. The star believes that election is not a do or die affair.

Terry G

Self-acclaied Akpako master, Gabriel Oche Amanyi is yet to declare his support for any candidate. He has been lying low lately. He would rather concentrate on his music career than politics.
