Jonathan’s government not behind Kano bomb blast – FG

President, Goodluck Jonathan has debunked the claims in some quarters that his government was behind the last Thursday’s attack on Kano Central Mosque where scores were feared killed.

Jonathan said, “what happened in Kano was beyond politics and our government is committed to protecting the life and property of innocent Nigerians”.

The President, represented by his Vice, Namadi Sambo, who led the federal government delegation, stated this while on a condolence visit to Kano Emir, Muhammad Sanusi II, at his palace yesterday.

According to him, “Myself, Mr Vice President, Inspector-General of Police, Sulaiman Abba of Jigawa State, National Security Adviser, Sambo Dasuki of Sokoto State and Defence Minister Aliyu Muhammad Gusau of Zamfara, are all of northern region and are Muslims.

“We cannot in our position allow any Nigerian of our religious affiliation or other religion to be treated badly or killed”, Namadi said.

Sambo said he came to Kano on behalf of Mr President to condole with Kano emirate, Kano government and people of Kano over the unfortunate incidence at the most historic mosque in the city of Kano.

In his response, Kano Emir, Muhammad Sanusi II, called on the federal government to fish out the perpetrators by investigating and making sure they were punished at the end of the day.

“Our belief is that a situation like Kano mosque attack requires thorough investigation – why it happened? Who are responsible? And how to protect prevent occurrence?”, he said.

He described the affected persons as his children and relatives and friends who were only in the mosque to pray.
