The General Secretary of the Christians Association of Nigeria, CAN, Rev. Musa Asake, has debunked the perception in some quarters that the defeat of the former president Goodluck Jonathan in the last presidential election has completely made the national body of Christians irrelevant in the scheme of things in Nigeria.
Noting that it was so disappointing for some people to be thinking along that line, he stressed that CAN is not a political organization or an affiliate of the Jonathan-led government that it would be counting its losses after the election.
Asake, who disclosed in Abuja on Wednesday while exchanging views with newsmen after the inauguration of the national executive of the Youth wing of CAN, YOWICAN, said: “It is so disappointing to hear people thinking along that way, what has CAN got to do with Jonathan? Is CAN under government? Is government giving money to CAN? No! We are Nigerians, Jonathan lost election we have another leader.
“When something happened in the country, we speak. On the recent ban of morning devotion in primary and secondary schools, we reacted, you people (media) carry our press release. We are not keeping quiet,” he said.
He went on to disclose that he had been doing his best to get Christians in particular and the masses in general to throw their weight behind the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari.
