Jonathan preaches end to political violence

President Goodluck Jonathan turned a preacher on Monday while appealing to politicians and all Nigerians to end all forms of political violence and allow popular will during elections.

He re-stated his government’s determination to guarantee a credible electoral process in the country.

Jonathan spoke in Aninri Local Government Area of Enugu State during the dedication of a church building by the Primate of Church of Nigeria, Anglican Communion, Most Rev Nicholas Okoh.

He commended the donor, the Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu over the church project and called on Nigerians to join hands with his government to build “a nation that our children, grand children and Nigerians unborn will be happy irrespective of political differences”.

The President said it was difficult to talk about good governance where election was being manipulated.

“You cannot steal a mandate and turn around to say you are governing well”, He stressed, adding that anybody who comes to power through manipulation would not record good achievement. “People must vote for you and you cannot do anything good without their supports. Every leader comes and goes but as a leader you pray to leave something solid”, he said.

Jonathan expressed confidence that with a credible electoral process, the whole country would be highly developed.

“So there is no need for people to fight for political leadership that is transient to the extent that you burn houses down. “People must vote for you, it is actually during the military that they use big gun to overthrow those with small guns and take over, in democratic dispensation, you must be properly elected, we must make sure that electoral processes is sanitized and the vote of Nigerians count”, he pledged.

The All Saints Convent Anglican Church Mpu, was solely built by the Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu.
