President Goodluck Jonathan on Thursday commended the Chairman of Arik Air, Johnson Arumemi-Ikhide and his company for air lifting the country’s football team, Super Eagles from South Africa.

The national team emerged the new soccer King of Africa at the just concluded Africa Cup of Nations, AFCON.

In appreciation of the team’s outstanding display at the continental competition, Arik Airline flew the players and crew back to the country on Tuesday free of charge.

In a letter to the chairman of the airline, Jonathan said, “Your very kind gesture of providing the aircraft that brought our gallant and victorious team and officials back home from South Africa was an act of high patriotism worthy of note.”

“I am confident that you will continue to avail the nation of your worthy endowments in the future.”

The President urged other Nigerians and companies to emulate Arik’s demonstration of enduring faith in Nigeria.

With a world class fleet of aircraft and wide range of destination routes, Arik is clearly the country’s biggest and best managed domestic airline.
