Jonathan extends olive branch; holds closed-door meeting with Obasanjo

In what could be termed a reconciliation mission, President Goodluck Jonathan on Saturday visited former President, Olusegun Obasanjo at his home in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital.

DailyPost gathered that the meeting, held behind closed doors, was at the instance of Mr. Jonathan.

The President and his convoy arrived at Obasanjo’s expansive residence few minutes before noon and quickly went in for talks.

As soon as he entered the compound, the gate was immediately closed on other visitors. Security was beefed up outside and along the road leading to the ex-president’s hilltop mansion, opposite Government House, Oke-Mosan.

Mr. Jonathan made the trip to commiserate with the family of Dr. Reuben Abati, his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, in Asero area of Abeokuta, on the death of Madam Maria Taiwo Abati.

The President yesterday was at Idimu area of Lagos, to commission an estate built for officers and men of the Nigeria Police.

Relationship between both leaders had gone sour over individual and policy differences.

Obj, as fondly called, had tackled the Jonathan-led administration on a number of issues, including security, national wealth, economy among others.

He however soft pedalled, after a fragile truce brokered by the leadership of the ruling People’s Democratic Party, PDP.
