Gulak
A former Special Adviser to President Goodluck Jonathan on Political Matters, Alhaji Ahmed Gulak, on Thursday refuted the report that he was fired by the President for being incompetent.
The former presidential aide while speaking with newsme in Abuja on Thursday said he could not possibly be in office for ever and that he had worked with Jonathan for seven years.
He said, “I don’t believe my leaving office will reduce my popularity and I was not removed from office for any offence. I played my part the way I know it; I have defended the President and I took on anybody who said President Jonathan should not contest.
“I was not sacked for incompetence. I was not sacked for dereliction of duty. I had been with the President for about seven years and I founded the Goodluck Support Group, which spearheaded his campaign in 2011 throughout the country.
“I took on anybody that was against him and his political moves. That was my duty. I did it very well and I think it would be wrong for anyone to say I was sacked ingloriously.”
Gulak insisted that it was in the interest of the country to allow Jonathan to continue for the next four years.
“For unity and continuity, there is no alternative to President Jonathan. Nigerians should rally round him in 2015. Jonathan has the Constitutional right to contest; if you don’t want to vote for him, it is a different thing than to say he should not contest.”
