Borno Elders Forum (BEF) has reacted to the arrest of suspected killer of an Army Commander during Nigeria’s Civil War, Gen Mohammed Shuwa.

Shuwa was murdered in front of his house in Gwange, Maiduguri on November 12, 2012 by members of the Boko Haram sect.

BEF spokesman, Dr Bulama Mali Gubio, told newsmen that the killing of Shuwa remains a great loss to them.

“It’s better to let the sleeping dog lie,” Gubio said.

“When general Shuwa was killed, the then federal government, under Jonathan, did not show any concern.

“The National Assembly was indifferent and worst of all, the Nigerian Army was not perturbed, no condolence letter, nothing, not even a last respect in honour of one of their own.

“Remember, General Shuwa fought for the survival of this country during the civil war. But, when he died, he was neglected.

“It was much later they arrested some young boys and said they were the killers.

“However, if the present administration and the military high command are now trying to make up, we welcome the development and we’re in full support.

“We hope they caught the real killers and we hope they would be tried so that more revelations would come out,” he said.
