Jonathan approves appointment of 3 VCs, Registrars for new universities

The President, Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, has approved the appointment of Vice Chancellors and Registrars for the three newly-established Federal Universities in Kebbi, Yobe and Zamfara States.

The Minister of Education, Prof. Ruqayyatu Ahmed Rufai, while conveying the President’s approval, said the new Vice Chancellors are Prof. Shehu

AbdulRahman, Federal University Gashua; Prof. Lawal Suleiman Bilbis, Federal University Birnin Kebbi; and Prof. Ben Chuks Okeke Federal University, Gusau.

Rufa’i further stated that the President has also approved the appointment of Prof. Isaac Asuzu to replace Prof. Chinedu Nebo, the new Minister of Power, as the Vice Chancellor of the Federal University, Oye-Ekiti, Ekiti State.

The Minister said the Registrars of the new universities are Alhaji Sule Dauda, Federal University Gashua; Ibrahim Mungadi, Federal University, Birnin Kebbi; and Ibrahim Bawa Kaura, Federal University, Gusau.

She said the choice of the new vice chancellors and registrars followed the laid down rules that require a vice chancellor to among others “be an

experienced former vice chancellor or deputy vice chancellor with sufficient scholarship and leadership quality, backed with area of specialization relevant to primary area of focus of the new university.”

Rufa’i thanked President Jonathan for the support and called on the benefiting states to support the take off and development of the new universities.

The new Vice Chancellors and Registrars are expected to report for briefings by the Minister on February 22, 2013 at the Minister’s Conference Room. The time of the briefing is 10am.
