JOHESU calls off three-month strike


The strike action embarked upon by health workers in the country under the auspices of the Joint Health Staff Union, JOHESU, three months ago has been called off.

This was announced at a press briefing in Abuja Yesterday by the President of the union, Comrade Ayuba Wabba, who explaining that the intervention of President Goodluck Jonathan made it necessary to call off the strike action.

According to Wabba, assurances were also made to tackle the cause of the 3 months strike, stating that the Federal Government also made a promise not to victimize any member for trying to press home their demands through the strike.

Wabba said: “We had a meeting yesterday with the President, views were expressed and commitments were made to the effect… we have no doubt that the commitment will be made and as people that are responsible, we had a meeting and concluded having reached that level and demonstration of his goodwill we have no option but to suspend the strike.”

The union embarked on the national industrial action last year November, citing unresolved issues bothering on improvement in staff welfare and salary while accusing the Federal Government of poor treatment of health workers in the sector.
