Jigawa state command of the National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, says it has arrested 186 persons in connection with different illicit drug-related cases.
This was stated by state commander Obi Josephine Ruth, at a press briefing on the commemoration of the World Drugs Free day with the theme of this year’s commemoration as “Health for Justice, justice for health”.
She explained that from January to June 2019, the command has arrested 186 persons out of which 182 were males and four are females and seized 61.24 kg of various narcotics and psychotropic substances.
Josephine said the suspects arrested were in connection with the abuse of cannabis sativa, codeine and psychotropic substances such as Diazepam, Exol, Tramadol and Rohypnol as well as non-conventional substances including rubber solution, suck and die and lizard dung.
She said NDLEA will continue to work to sanitise the state through arrests, seizures, diligent prosecution and counselling.
The state commander commended the Jigawa state government for the establishment of rehabilitation centre in the state which will serve as residential counselling centre.
He said out of the number arrested, 22 were convicted while 108 persons were counselled.
