The governorship and state house of assembly election in Jigawa State witnessed a high turnout as electorates in all the polling units patiently exercised their civil right.
The major contest of the governorship seat is between the candidate of the ruling party, APC, Muhammad Badaru Abubakar, and the opposition candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Alh Aminu Ibrahim Ringim.
About 2.6m registered voters are expected to decide for the number-one citizen of the state Saturday.
The two major candidates were in similar battle in 2015 when Governor Badaru got 648,046 votes against Aminu Ringim, who scored 479,447 votes.
DAILY POST visited some polling units and observed that election materials arrived to most of the polling units as early as 7am and INEC officials were seen arranging the materials and the electorates waiting for the official time for the commencement of election.
The election began as early as 8 am at most of the polling units across the state.
Also the rampant card reader failure, which caused voting delay during the last presidential election, was tackled as no any of such problem recorded at all the piling units Daily Post visited at the time of filing this report.
The Jigawa state Governor, Muhammad Badaru Abubakar cast his votes at Arewa Primary polling unit at 10:38am in Babura local government.
He expressed happiness on the high turnout of the voters, and expressed confidence that the All Progressive Congress, APC, will win the election.
Also, the PDP governorship candidate, Mal Aminu Ibrahim cast his votes at Marakawa poling unit at 10am in Ringim local government.
He also called on the electorates to avoid any act that may breach the peace and stability enjoyed in the state during and after the election.
