Barely 24 hours after DailyPost reported that the EFCC Chairman, Ibrahim Lamorde, at a forum disclosed that the commission intercepted over N15 billion at the nation’s airports in 2012 alone, a son of the Jigawa State governor, Sule Lamido, Aminu, was early Wednesday morning arrested at the Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport for being in possession of thousands of dollars.

The suspect was caught as he prepared to board an Egyptian Air flight to Cairo.

Security agents and operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) at the airport, were said to have uncovered a huge sum of money in foreign currency in the Governor’s son’s luggage.

EFCC  spokesperson, Wilson Uwujaren , in an interview confirmed the arrest, adding that the  EFCC office in Kano will charge the Governor’s son to court in a matter of days.

Movement of physical cash by government officials and their cronies through the airports has been on the rise, as banks in recent months have come under intense scrutiny by apex financial regulator, Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).
