The Jigawa Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), said on Thursday that it recovered the corpse of a two-year-old boy, Sani Umar, from a pond. The state Commandant of the Corps, Malam Muhammad Gidado, told the News of Nigeria (NAN) that the deceased was discovered by men of the command operating in the area.
Gidado said that the incident occurred at Unguwar-Gabas quarters in Malam-Madori Local Government Area.
He said that the victim was suspected to have fallen into the pond after a downpour in the area.
The commandant said the boy was confirmed dead at the General Hospital in Malam-Madori.
The corpse, he said, had been handed over to the parents and had since been buried according to Islamic rites.
Gidado, however, urged parents to monitor their wards to forestall such ugly incidents.
