A former Speaker of the Imo State House of Assembly, Mr. Nwoha Amaechi, on Thursday said that
the suspension of Rep. Abdulmumin Jibrin by the House of Representatives was expected.
Amaechi described the suspension as a “warning to indiscipline”.
He said that the suspended lawmaker had by his actions violated the standing rules of the lower chamber of the National Assembly.
He said, “Publicly levelling unfounded allegations against his members in spite of the party’s interference, is unethical of a lawmaker.
“He went too far in his actions, he went to press first to make allegations bringing to fore the House’s internal matters to press.”
The lawmaker, who described the suspension as a “warning to indiscipline”, said that the suspended lawmaker called for it.
The former speaker expressed confidence in the standing rule of the National Assembly, saying that it was impartial.
Amaechi condemned corruption in its entirety and called on all stakeholders to restore the image of the country by shunning the vice.
He said that the war against corruption must be sustained, adding that Nigerians must guard against campaign of calumny and defamation.
He said, “If Jibrin had at the beginning before the signing of the budget reported foul play, by even bringing the attention of security agents, he would have been vindicated but he didn’t.
“His action was like an afterthought, he created room for suspicion of guilt against himself, in fact he shot himself on the leg.”
