Jibrin’s suspension: Court fixes date to hear kinsmen’s suit against Dogara

A Federal High Court in Kano yesterday fixed February 20, 2017 for hearing in a suit filed before it challenging the suspension of Abdulmumini Jibrin.

29 constituents from Kiru/Bebeji federal constituency, which Jibrin represents, had sued Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara and Clerk of the House over the suspension of their representative.

The presiding judge, Justice Sulaiman Kogo, while ruling on an application for adjournment filed by the counsel to the plaintiff, Barrister Bashir M. Muqaddam, adjourned the matter to February 20, 2017 for hearing.

Earlier, Barrister Muqaddam told the court that he was served with respondents’ response on Tuesday and that he needed more time to respond to some issues.

“We intend to respond but we have to address two vital issues: one is that the respondents demanded the consolidation of this case with the other case being handled at Court 3 in Abuja.

“The second issue is that we have not been served effectively by the respondents. So, we want to address these issues and that is why we asked for some time to respond to them,” Muqaddam told the court.

Counsel to the respondents, Barrister Kalu Onoha said he had no objection on the application filed by the counsel to the plaintiff.

In a chat with newsmen, Barrister Muqaddam said the respondents had raised some vital issues that needed to be addressed.
