The Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP) has condemned the downward review of cut-off marks for admission into tertiary institutions.
The body further described the latest marks as the worst in the world
JAMB, along with stakeholders, had fixed the minimum cut off marks for admissions into universities at 120 and polytechnics and colleges of education pegged at 100.
The stakeholders added that institutions were at liberty to raise their cut off marks for admission above the minimum set by JAMB.
Reacting, ASUP President, Usman Dutse, on Friday warned that the new cut-off mark for admission will reduce the standard of education in Nigeria. His words: “The new cut-off mark will increase corruption in the admission process.
”The development will also affect standard and value will be eroded. There is no where in the world that 25 per cent is adopted as the pass mark.
“The suggested cut-off mark is not good for the development of education and the candidates.”
“There was no much consultation with the stakeholders on the decision, JAMB only held a meeting with some heads of institutions once to inform them on what they intend to do”.
