IYC threatens to occupy National Assembly over House of Reps’ summon of Jonathan

The Ijaw Youth Council, IYC led by Barr. Oweilaemi Pereotubor on Sunday July 9 threatened to occupy the National Assembly if the House of Representatives continue to insists that former President, Goodluck Ebele Jonathan should appear before an Adhoc Committee.

The Ijaw youths handed down the threat at the thanksgiving service organized by the the Nigeria Union of Journalists,Delta State Council led by Comrade Michael Ikeogwu and in Warri.

Speaking on behalf of the youths, Barr. Oweilaemi Pereotubor noted that the invitation by the House Representatives Adhoc Committee to Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan is a ploy to intimidate the Ijaw people.

“We will not allow anybody to intimidate us. This is another ploy to intimidate the Ijaw people. If the House of Representatives insists Goodluck Ebele Jonathan must come, we will occupy the National Assembly.”

Pereotubor who expressed anger over the invitation stated that it has never happened in the history of Nigeria.

Pereotubor stated that due processes should be followed if former President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan should be invited at all stressing that,” Good luck is just a former President. Whatever he has done, some persons may have done more dirty things than what hr has done.”

Pereotubor claimed that the former president who he described as a “Hero” was allegedly ambushed and forced out of office and that the Ijaw people are yet to come to terms with it.

The Ijaw youth leader also restated his calls for the true and genuine restructuring of the country.

According to Pereorubor,” This country must be restructured. We must sit down together as a people to peacefully agree that what belongs to the Ijaw people must be given to them. What belongs to the Niger Delta must be given to them.”

Pereotubor also christined as “unimaginable” the inclusion of the Niger Delta Area in the Biafra Map by the Independent People of Biafra,IPOB.

While noting that the Niger Delta Republic predates the Biafran struggle, Pereotubor said,” Biafra is unrealistic and the Ijaw people are not part of that. They should draw their map accordingly. The Biafra must not include the Niger Delta territory and the Ijaw people are not part of Biafra.”
