The Ijaw Youth Council, IYC, led by Eric Omare has condemned the alleged attack on a military outpost as well as the killing of two persons, including a soldier in Ogbogbagbene Community, Burutu Local Government Area of Delta State.
In a statement made available to DAILY POST, Omare described the act as ” criminal” and as a “setback” to Niger Delta peace efforts.
“The Ijaw Youth Council condemns the brutal murder of a military officer at Ogbugbagbebe, Burutu Local government Area of Delta State by unknown gunmen. This action is barbaric and highly unacceptable.
“This killing is not in tune with the Ijaw and Niger Delta struggle and has nothing to do with the struggle.
“It is a clear case of criminality and a setback to efforts towards peace and stability to the region. We therefore call on the relevant security agencies to bring to justice the perpetrators of this heinous crime to serve as deterrent to others”, he said. Omare called on the relevant security agencies to go after the perpetrators and bring them to justice, just as he charged men of the Nigerian Army operating in the area to be professional in the discharge of their duties and operations.Omare assured security agencies of the IYC’s readiness to work with them in bringing lasting peace and security to the Niger Delta.
Omare urged the military not to victimize innocent residents of Ogbogbagbene, Tuomo, Bomadi and other communities on account of the incident.
“However, we call on the military to display the utmost professionalism in their quest to get the perpetrators of this crime.
“The innocent people of Ogbugbagbebe, Tuomo, Bomadi and other neighbouring communities must not be subjected to unnecessary pains in the attempt to get the criminals.
“The IYC offers to work with security agencies towards ensuring a peaceful and secured Niger Delta region”, he added.
