Tragedy struck on Wednesday in the ancient town of Ijebu Ode, Ogun State, when unknown persons attacked and killed the Iyaloja of Ijebuland, Alhaja Sadia Elewuju at her residence in in the town.
The gunmen, numbering six, reportedly stormed residence of the 82-year Elewuju at about 3:00 pm. They were reported to have attacked her with machetes, cutting her recklessly.
It was gathered that Elewuju gave up the ghost while on her way to the hospital.
A source in Ijebu Ode, while commenting on the person of the late Iyaloja, described her as an outspoken and very influential person who bared her mind on any matter. “She is always very vocal and fierce in her position on any matter. She has championed many causes for women, especially market women.
“She’s very popular in political circles. The house she lived in was given to her by the former Ogun State governor, Otunba Gbenga Daniel,” the source added.
The deceased was installed as Iyaloja of Ijebu Ode by the Awujale of Ijebuland, Oba Sikiru Kayode Adetona.
