Governor Kashim Shettima
The Borno State Governor, Hon. Kashim Shettima has commended the efforts of the Nigerian Armed Forces in its recent fight against Boko Haram insurgency in the state and the north-east in general.
Shettima made the commendation Monday at the Government House Maiduguri, when the new Air Force Commander, 79 composite group Maiduguri, Air Commodore Christopher Egwoba paid him a courtesy call.
He said with the recent feats the Armed forces were achieving on its fight against insurgency, very soon the Boko Haram insurgency would be a thing of the past.
“It surprises me when some people are blaming the military in its fight against insurgents; the Armed forces are doing their best. If any segment of the society is to be blamed, it is the political leadership should be blamed for not equipping the military”, the governor stated.
According to him, for the past 2 to 3 weeks, the security situation in Borno and the North-east is improving, as the capacity of the terrorists is declining by the day.
He also commended the forces from the neighboring countries of Chad, Niger, and Cameroun Republic for joining hands with Nigerian military in fighting the insurgents, stressing that though the neigouring forces were doing a good job, Nigerian military were doing the bulk of the work.
“The recent feat would not have been achieved without the aerial bombardment from the Nigerian Air force, as the exercise is being carried out by the troops of the 7th Division of the Nigerian Army in collaboration with Nigerian Air force”, Shettima stated.
The governor therefore assured the Air force of his government’s support to its fights against the Boko Haram insurgents in the state and the North-east in general.
Earlier speaking, the Commander 79 Composite Group of the Nigerian Air force, Air commodore Christopher Egwoba commended the Borno State government for rendering support to the security agencies in the state.
He said “I have been observing the activities of the Borno state government and his Excellency, Governor Kashim Shettima before I was posted to the state and you are doing a good job, as you have been supporting the security agencies in the state.”
He said he was in the state to support the Borno state government’s quest for permanent peace in the state, the north-east and the country at large, adding that no society would develop without peace.
