Following last week’s receipt of the two out of 120 foreign branded exotic cars budgeted at N4.7bn by the upper legislative chamber, Chairman of the Presidential Advisory Committee Against Corruption, Prof. Itse Sagay SAN has averred that it smacks of irresponsibility for the Senate to go ahead with the purchase of the state-of-the-art cars.

Noting that the acquisition is made at the expense of the country and shows that members of the Senate are not fit to be legislators, Vanguard reports Sagay as saying: “They do not need imported cars. They already have cars but all they need are pool vehicles. In other words, if they are going about doing their committee work, do they go individually or they go about in groups? That is the question.

“For me, what they have done is an irresponsible determination to acquire expensive toys at the expense of this country. At a time when our economy is in the doldrums, we cannot afford it, but these people are determined to extract the last blood from the body of this country in order to enjoy the luxury which they cannot fund but which they want the poor people of this country to fund for them.”

The Chairman of the Presidential Advisory Committee went on to state that the move by the Senate “is totally irresponsible and like I remarked, it just confirms my view that they are not fit to be legislators, they are exhibiting the mentality of someone who is deprived and determined to enjoy an unnecessary luxury at the expense of the country. So, it is a big shame.”
