Isiaka Adetunji Adeleke: Senate adjourns sitting over death of colleague

The Senate has adjourned sitting to Wednesday, 25th April, 2017 over the death of Senator Isiaka Adetunji Adeleke who died on Sunday.

Moving the motion through order 43 of Senate rules, Senator Ahmed Lawan expressed shock over the death of their colleague.

He reminded lawmakers that it was a tradition that respect be given to the departed for his contribution to the National development.

“Mr. President, distinguished colleagues, I rise through order 43 of our rules to announce the death of our colleague, Senator Isiaka Adetunji Adeleke who died on Sunday, 23rd April, 2017.”

“It is the practice and conviction of National Assembly to show respect to the departed for us to adjourn plenary to the next legislative day,” he said.

Upholding the motion, Senate President, Bukola Saraki stressed that valedictory speeches of late Adeleke would be taken tomorrow, urging lawmakers to be available.

Late Adeleke, a former governor of Osun state was a second timer to the Senate on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and Chairman, Senate Committee on Capital markets.

DAILY POST recalls that the lawmaker’s death on Sunday in a hospital elicited wild reactions from those who suspected that he was poisoned.

The allegation forced the authority to order for the clinical autopsy before he was laid to rest on Monday, 24th April, 2017.
