Operatives of Edo State Police Command and hunters have rescued the kidnapped Catholic priest, Reverend Father Isaac Agubi, of Holy Name Catholic Church, Ikpeshi community in Akoko-Edo Local Government Area of the state.
DAILY POST reports that the cleric was abducted on Sunday along Auchi-Akoko Edo road at about 5pm after conducting service on the same day while returning to his residence.
According to sources, Rev. Agubi was rescued by the security men at Sasaro area in Akoko-Edo after exchange of gunfire with his abductors inside a nearby forest.
One of the fleeing abductors was arrested after sustaining bullet wounds during exchange of bullets in the bush.
The cleric was later abandoned by the kidnappers, who fled the bush after intense battle with police and the hunters.
Effort to reach Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the state command, DSP Chidi Nwabuzor, was unsuccessful.
