The Captain of Heartland FC of Owerri, Chinedu Efugh, says the irregular payment of salaries is taking its toll on players in the Nigeria Professional Football League.

Efugh said this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria in Lagos on Monday.

The captain was speaking against the background of lack of funds being experienced by most club sides in the league.

The player stated in spite of the distracting nature of the development, his colleagues will put up their best performances to succeed in the league.

He said: “Well we are really training hard.

“You know sometimes the Nigerian scenario, you know all these distraction of money, money, money, money; sometimes it plays a role too.

“Well it’s just part of it, but we believe that everything is going to turn around well for the government to come out.

“You know to boost the team, the money we are talking about, we needed more of government coming in to help.”

NAN reports that the Owerri-based side, popularly known as Naze Millionaires, suffered a 1-2 loss at home to Rangers International FC of Enugu in a Week 19 encounter at the Dan Anyiam Stadium.

The two teams played a goalless at the end of the first half of the ongoing 2016/2017 league season.

The club is currently 15th on the league table.
