Ireland votes to legalise gay marriage [SEE RESULTS]

The people of the Republic Ireland, in the first ever national referendum, seem to have voted in favour of the moves to legalise gay marriage in the country.

BBC reports that over 3,200,000 (three million and two hundred thousand) people were asked whether they wanted to amend the country’s constitution to allow gay and lesbian couples to marry.

Counting, which started at about 9am on Saturday indicates that the citizens of the country have voted in favour of the move.

The result of the referendum is expected to be announced this night.
