The Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria, IPMAN, has cautioned the Department of Petroleum Resources over the clampdown on filling stations in Port Harcourt and its environs.
Chairman of the Rivers State Unit of IPMAN, Sunny Nkpe in an interview with DAILY POST said “in as much as the DPR means well for fuel consumers, the Department should consider those who are supplying the petrol”.
Nkpe said certain mechanisms had to be put in place before DPR starts enforcing the Law on N87 pump price.
He also warned that there might be scarcity of the product if the DPR persisted with the closure of filling stations in the state.
“This is why we feel that IPMAN is now the guinea pig here. IPMAN is now the scape-goat. Some people just want to prove that they are working.
“We do not intend to join issues with DPR. We have come out to let the public know that we appreciate them for what they are doing, but this clampdown is not the solution. It will create scarcity if it continues like this”, Nkpe said.
The Department of Petroleum Resources has so far sealed more than 35 filling stations for selling above official pump price of N87 per litre, among other offences.
