The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Wednesday, revealed that circumstances that led to an accident involving former governor of Akwa Ibom State, Goodswill Akpabio, were being investigated.
It will be recalled that Akpabio had, on Monday morning, escaped death narrowly after his car got involved in an accident in Abuja. The accident occurred near the Bolingo Junction, close to the Ship House, after Mr. Akpabio’s driver reportedly disobeyed traffic light, ramming into another car belonging to the American embassy.
Premium Times reports that the Head, Media Relations and Strategy, FRSC, Bisi Kazeem, said investigations into the crash were already ongoing.
According to Kazeem, the Accident and Investigation Team of the FRSC was immediately deployed to the scene of the crash for investigation, adding that the outcome of the investigation would determine the next line of action the FRSC would take on the matter.
A witness said Mr. Akpabio was travelling in a convoy of vehicles towards the City Gate when the accident occurred.
The former governor who was later hospitalized at the National Hospital in Abuja, was discharged Monday evening, and is reported to have traveled abroad for further treatment.
