The Ijaw Peoples Development Initiative, IPDI, on Thursday called on the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, to probe Niger Delta Governors over reckless spendings of the 13 percent derivation that comes into the Niger Delta region of Nigeria.
IPDI’s National President, Comrade Austin Ozobo made the call in a chat with DAILY POST in Warri, Delta State.
“Corrupt leaders should be arrested and tried. EFCC should not wait for people to petition before swinging into action.
“It should investigate and arrest when the need arises as this will bring about prudent spending of the region’s resources.
“We have 13 percent derivation, NDDC ,Niger Delta ministry, various Oil Producing Communities Development Commissions, and it is being headed by our people, yet we are underdeveloped. It is so appalling.
“Apart from some topical issues that need federal government attention, this intervention agencies are capable of turning things for the better in Niger Delta region.”
Ozobo said the Niger Delta region is still backward and underdeveloped because it lacks good leaders.
He said the leaders are very “greedy” and “wicked.”
According to Ozobo, “No leader in the region is interested in the development and empowerment of the youths of Niger Delta. They are only interested in their well-being and families.”
Ozobo also said the Niger Delta leaders should stop playing politics with the development of the region just as he said good people should be appointed to political offices and government parastatals in the region.
