The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) on Tuesday dismantled a four-man international arms-smuggling syndicate.
The four-man syndicate comprising Ojoomo Olugbenga, Oladimeji Adeogun, Habib Musibau and Thomas Olumuyiwa were arrested in Saki, at the Nigeria-Benin Republic border in Oyo State.
Frank Mba, the Public Relations Officer of the Police, disclosed this in a statement issued on Monday.
He said the criminal gang operated around parts of the Sahel region, North African and West African countries, adding that a total of 6,000 AK-47 ammunition were recovered from them.
The statement read in part: “Operatives of the Intelligence Response Unit (IRT), Special Tactical Squad (STS), Police Mobile Force, Counter Terrorism Unit and the Special Forces attached to Operation Puff Adder apprehended the syndicate.
“The four-man syndicate comprising Ojoomo Olugbenga, Oladimeji Adeogun, Habib Musibau and Thomas Olumuyiwa were arrested in Saki at the Nigeria-Benin Republic border in Oyo State.
“Also another set of 24 AK-47 rifles, four pump-action guns, 11 Dane guns, 10 English pistols, two single-barrelled guns, one set of army camouflage uniforms and 22 live cartridges were recovered from other criminal gangs in different parts of the country.”
