Roberto Mancini has been sacked as the manager of Inter Milan, with just two weeks before the new Serie A season.
The club’s owners decided to dismiss the Italian, after they were hammered 6-1 by Tottenham in a pre-season friendly last weekend.
Mancini has been under pressure, after he failed to qualify Inter for this season’s Champions League, despite being on top of the table in late January.
“Inter would like to place on record its thanks to Roberto for the work carried out with the team since joining in November 2014,” said a club statement.
“Last season the club led Serie A until the Christmas break, ending the season in fourth place and qualifying for the UEFA Europa League.
“We thank Roberto for the work and commitment he has shown the club over the past 20 months.”
