Insurgency: NGO urges FG to compensate families of fallen soldiers

The Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria (HURIWA), an NGO, has called on the Federal Government to extent funds for the victims of terrorism attack to families of soldiers killed by the insurgents.

Mr Emmanuel Onwubiko, National Coordinator of HURIWA, made the call in a statement signed by him on Wednesday in Abuja.

“We call on all Nigerians to step up patriotic support for the soldiers as they collectively wage the war against terrorists.

“We also call on the government not to relent in the current resolve to equip the Nigerian military with the state of combat weapons and military hardware,” he said.

He also called urged government to specifically set aside a day in 2015 to honour the dead soldiers with awards as a way of boosting the morale of other soldiers.

Onwubiko urged Yobe Government to improve on its health facilities to enable them to cope with emergency cases such as the recent bomb blast in Potiskum.

“This could ease medical personnel to handle emergency cases like the unfortunate spate of violent terrorism targeting civilians in the area.

“Government should train the Nigerian military and provide them with the enabling environment to combat the insurgents effectively.

“A national monument with their names engraved should also be constructed in any part of Nigeria to remind generations yet unborn of the enormous sacrifice rendered by these soldiers,” he further urged.
