Insurgency: Bala advocates creation of Ministry for North-East Rehabilitation

A retired Air Force Officer, Squadron Leader Aminu Bala, has advocated the creation of a Ministry for the Rehabilitation of the insurgency-ravaged North East region. Bala told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Sokoto on Saturday that the proposed ministry would undertake the massive rehabilitation of the north eastern parts of Nigeria which had been totally devastated by the activities of insurgency.

” The advocated ministry can be likened to the Ministry of Niger Delta, which was created by the Federal Government to take care of the environmental devastation of the Niger Delta area due to oil exploration related problems.

”The ministry would also help to counter the menace of poverty and unemployment in the region to reduce their consequences.

”An idle mind is the devil’s workshop and providing more employment opportunities for the people of the area would go a long way to reduce youth restiveness,” he added.

Bala further expressed happiness with the progress so far achieved in the ongoing fight against insurgency.

He described President Muhammadu Buhari as a committed, patriotic and selfless leader, who is religiously committed to peace and development of the country.

”Buhari is a leader, who has taken the entire nation as his constituency and the formation of the regional and multinational joint force, as well as his global shuttles on how to end Boko Haram are commendable.

” There is also an improvement in the inter-service understanding both within the armed forces and their sister security agencies, but complacency should not be allowed to set in,” he advised.

Bala further advocated the promulgation of laws by the national and state assemblies in the country to make kidnappers and rapists to face capital punishment. NAN
