The Bishop of Ondo Catholic Diocese, Most Rev. Jude Arogundade has decried the spate of insecurity currently being experience in various parts of the country.
Bishop Arogundade, who advised President Muhammadu Buhari on the need to urgently address Nigerians as regards the killings by armed bandits, emphasized that it will go a long way at putting the menace at bay.
The Bishop who spoke during the commemoration of this year’s World Communications Day on Sunday at the Sacred Heart Catholic Cathedral, Akure, the Ondo State capital.
He stated that the situation, which had put Nigerians at a crossroad will spell doom for the country if left unchecked.
His words: “The mood of our country is saddening, it is not acceptable. People are being killed at will without justice being served to perpetrators.
“It is disheartening that the country is at her lowest ebb, particularly that killings have been going on unchecked.
“A nation without truth is always in darkness. Right now, we don’t know where we are heading. That is the situation we are into and it is quite unfortunate.
“How I wish the president can address us (Nigerians). It a worse scenario for the country that the president has refused to address the citizens in the face of all that is happening.”
However, the Catholic Bishop called on christians not to be dampened with the current trends but to continue to offer supplication to God for the liberation of the country.
“But as christians, we need not to be down by all that is happening around us.
“Let us continue to pray for the country, it is through this that we can survive all that is happening.”
Pointedly, the Bishop also appealed to journalists to continue raise the bar of news reportage so that the ruling class will be aware of all that is happening as regards the negative narratives in the country.
