Insecurity in Kaduna now like Boko Haram insurgency – Shehu Sani

The senator representing Kaduna Central senatorial district, Shehu Sani has expressed concern over incessant killings and kidnappings in Birnin Gwari area of Kaduna state, stressing that the development is not different from Boko Haram attacks in the North-East.

Speaking on Order 43 during Wednesday’s plenary, Sani asked the Senate to prevail on the federal government to intervene, noting that unreported killings and attacks in the local government area were more than the ones reported.

He emphasised that the federal government should take the attacks serious same way that the Boko Haram insurgency was being handled.

According to Sani, “killings in Birnin Gwari occur on daily basis, while kidnapping of citizens has increased. Just three days ago, about 83 persons were kidnapped” in one fell swoop.

“Last week, some people were kidnapped, that week, many people were kidnapped.

“There is need for the federal government to take the situation in Birnin Gwari as serious as the other places.

“It is as bad as the situation of Boko Haram and there is burial everyday and ceaseless mourning.”

“I appeal to the Senate to call on President Muhammadu Buhari to take Birnin Gwari serious even as there are killings that are not reported in the media.”

The lawmaker stated that the Inspector General of Police’s visit to the area two weeks ago yielded no improvement.

In his remarks, the Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki noted that the situation has been unbearable. Adopting the order, he said the Senate would invite service chiefs next week for a briefing.
