INEC to administer oath on ad-hoc staff in Cross River

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is to administer oath of neutrality on all ad-hoc staff who will participate in the conduct of 2019 elections in Cross River.

The State Resident Electoral Commissioner, Dr. Frankland Briyai stated this in Calabar on Thursday during the monthly meeting of Federal establishments in the state.

He said it was necessary to remind the people before the election, explaining that they would be used by the Commission as supervisory/presiding officers (SPOs) and appealed to them to ensure neutrality when the time comes.

“All ad-hoc staff are going to swear to an oath of office and this is because we want to ensure that the coming elections are different in every respect. INEC uses staff of federal establishments because they are believed to be more neutral and have broader horizon, having come from other states of the federation,” he said.

“I am appealing to all election officials, including the federal government staff not to compromise in carrying out their election duties. They should respect al the ground rules so that there can be outcomes that represent the will of the people. This is INEC’s main objective for using unbiased officials like you to conduct elections,” the REC said.

Earlier, the chairman of federal establishments in the state, Dr. Fred Chucks Okoli of Federal Character Commission said the purpose of the meeting was to unite members and to work for the progress of the country and the state in particular.
