An alarm by vigilant supporters of a political party in Saturday’s gubernatorial and house of assembly elections have led to the recovery of about 10, 000 ballot papers declared missing in Shomolu Local Government Area of Lagos State.
DAILY POST was informed Friday night that one Mr. Makinde, an Electoral Officer in charge of Shomolu federal constituency secretly returned the missing materials after Lagos Resident Electoral Commissioner, Mr. Akin Orebiyi gave him a matching order.
Our source said: “When news filtered in that about some 10, 000 ballot papers sent by INEC to Shomolu were missing, the whole environment became rowdy as people insisted that the materials be produced with immediate effect.
“While that was on, some persons called the REC to intimate him of the situation and he promised to look into it immediately.
“We were told that he called Mr. Makinde to warn him of the consequences of loss of items put under his care and that he should be ready to face prosecution.
“It was like magic. Under 30 minutes, as we all gathered to see what the outcome will be, Mr. Makinde came out that they had found the papers”.
Asked how the materials were found, the source said: “He gave a very flimsy excuses. That he didn’t count well initially.
“In fact, we would have known if the junior staff inside didn’t inform us that something shady was going on because the man has the key to the room the materials were kept.”
