INEC in fix as Supreme Court nullifies appeal of Rivers APC

The Supreme Court has nullified the Appeal of the All Progressives Congress, APC challenging the judgement of Justice Chiwendu Nworguof the State High Court in Port Harcourt that barred the APC from conducting primaries.

The Supreme Panel unanimously held that the judgement of Justice Nworgu has substance.

The apex court, therefore, agreed with the argument of counsel to Ibrahim Umar, Henry Bello that the Appeal of the APC is an academic exercise.

Other appeals before the Supreme Court were adjourned till May, 2019 because it is not a pre-election matter.

But there are fears as the Independent National Electoral Commission may be in a fix because of the interpretation of today’s ruling.

Recall that the Supreme Court had struck out an appeal by Senator Magnus Abe and 42 others against the stay of execution granted in favour the All Progressives Congress to field candidates in Rivers State on the judgement of James Omotosho of the Federal High Court.
