The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has created 10 more registration centres in Cross River State.
Disclosing this in Calabar on Wednesday, the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in the state Dr. Frankland Briyai said “when I came in, we had 20 registration centres; now we have 10 more (most of which are mobile centres).
“We have been to Obubra, Yala, Ikom, Etung, Calabar South and now Akpabuyo and we have registered about 20,000 persons so far at the new centres.
“Before the election period, I’ll make sure every eligible voter in Cross River has been captured.
“From 24th April to first phase of December, 2017, the PVCs will be coming out in the first week of May, 2018. We have made provisions for awareness, sensitisation for the media, community rulers, about this.
“So far, over 188,000 people have been registered from April 2017 till date and over 72,000 people have not collected their PVCs”.
The REC added that “staff training has begun both nationally and locally. We just finished some training about two weeks ago and some of the staff are in the field working. We just concluded a workshop at Transcorp in Calabar too.”
“Some of our staff are in the US, India and other countries to learn the electoral processes out there. Update on infrastructure has been made. Card readers have been upgraded too and there will be accessible of materials before time in the next elections”, Briyai said.
